Estimator – Construction

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Estimator to join our construction team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects — from conceptual budgets to detailed bid proposals. This individual will analyze project drawings, specifications, and subcontractor inputs to develop comprehensive and competitive estimates that align with company goals and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.

  • Develop quantity takeoffs and cost analyses for all phases of construction.

  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure competitive and complete pricing.

  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, and procurement teams to validate scope and align on deliverables.

  • Prepare bid proposals and assist with pricing strategies to support business development efforts.

  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.

  • Track and analyze historical cost data to improve estimating accuracy and support future bids.

  • Support the handoff process to project management to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to execution.

  • Identify value engineering opportunities and risk factors that could impact project profitability.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, construction trends, and material pricing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 3+ years of experience as a Construction Estimator, preferably within general contracting or commercial/industrial construction.

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and codes.

  • Proficiency with estimating software (such as Bluebeam, Procore, PlanSwift, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

  • Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience estimating for industrial, manufacturing, or design-build projects.

  • Familiarity with local subcontractor markets and pricing trends in the Midwest region.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
