Field Civil Engineer  
Charlotte, NC (On-site)
Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000
Per Diem: $105/day

Overview
Our client, a well-established civil engineering organization, is seeking a Field Civil Engineer to work on active construction sites in North Carolina. This hands-on role involves verifying construction against engineering plans, assisting with structural element placement, and collaborating closely with site crews. The ideal candidate thrives in a field-based environment and has strong technical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and manage permits for civil engineering and infrastructure projects
  • Conduct site visits to ensure construction aligns with design specifications
  • Prepare and modify engineering documents including reports, plans, schedules, and cost estimates using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other design software
  • Establish survey control and lay out secondary control points for building elements
  • Assess site conditions using maps, drawings, and geotechnical data to guide project planning
  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and quality
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and mathematics to project challenges
  • Collaborate with team members to complete project tasks and assignments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 4 years of site civil engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification; working toward Professional Engineer licensure
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Experience with grading, earthwork, and stormwater drainage design (Autodesk SSA)
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting (NPDES, wetlands, Phase 1 ESA)
  • Site layout experience, including parking, access, roadways, and ADA compliance
  • Roadway/paving design and specifications knowledge
  • Surveying and geotechnical knowledge relevant to site preparation and heavy haul paving
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
