Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer

Position Overview

The Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer will join the Infrastructure Development team to design and implement scalable, high-performance systems that support the company’s clean energy mission. This role is essential to advancing a circular economy for lithium-ion batteries by transforming recycled materials into high-quality inputs for new production.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform instrumentation and controls design assignments with minimal supervision.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop technical solutions across all project phases.

  • Utilize Revit to produce detailed construction drawings, including:

    • Instrument and control panel layouts

    • Raceway drawings (conduit/cable tray sizing, routing, and fill calculations)

    • Circuit schedules for low-voltage control signals, power, and network wiring

    • Instrument wiring details, schedules, and installation details

  • Develop and maintain instrumentation installation specifications.

  • Coordinate with electrical engineers to size or adapt cable tray systems for I&C applications.

  • Support controls engineering in the specification and selection of I&C devices to ensure process and environmental compatibility.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, including datasheets, I/O lists, valve lists, and instrument lists.

  • Assist with procurement by reviewing vendor offerings and supporting component selection.

  • Contribute to process improvements, standard templates, and design workflows.

  • Support construction observation and administration to ensure quality and compliance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering (or equivalent experience).

  • 4+ years of relevant I&C design experience.

  • Highly motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

  • Working knowledge of UL508A standards for industrial control panel design and construction.
