Staff Civil Site Engineer 
Norfolk, VA (On-site)

Description: The Staff Civil Site Engineer will work on project teams to create world class site designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including pipelines, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, municipal, commercial, and government facilities. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform/assist in civil design and calculations for projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review drawings for a variety of projects.
  • Design civil components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers, while incorporating client, local, state, and federal regulations including, but not limited to:
    • Site Demolition
    • Erosion and Sediment Control
    • Grading
    • Drainage
    • Stormwater Quality/Quantity
    • Site Layout
    • Sanitary Sewer Layout and Design
    • Domestic and Firewater Layout and Design
    • Utility Profiles
  • Apply strong knowledge of commonly used site civil engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the site civil engineering services industry.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Compile studies and reports. Write specifications.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements and/or calculations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Mentor younger staff.
  • Comply with all company policies and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred – OR – Master’s degree in civil engineering and 2 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, Math CADD), and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, civil analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred.
